Favourite Pics for May.

Alida and Millers favourite pictures this month are all about the outside of the home. With last weeks blog being about Winter Coming and how to keep warm and cosy next to a wood fire, that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy spending time in an outdoor room. I think an outdoor room attached, or a short distance away from the house, is just as important as a family or dinning room, and even with the weather getting colder, there is no good reason why you can't snuggle up in that area with a warm winter blanket, or sit your self and friends around a cosy fire pit. I also can't think of any reason why a home can't be painted an outstanding bright colour. We are happy to paint our interiors bold and bright, but seem to shy away when it comes to the exterior. I hope these stunning colourful homes below, will change your mind.

Winter is Coming

The cold months are finally upon us, and even in the Byron Bay Hinterland we need a fire for most of the winter. Nothing is more romantic than a wood fire, and if you are fortunate enough to have one in your living room, bedroom or even bathroom, I think that would make most people a little envious.
Some don't like the smell of the smoke coming from the chimney, but I find it quite comforting,  knowing that inside it will be warm and cosy. If you don't have a wood burning fire place, maybe visit a friend, pub, or restaurant that does, and enjoy the ambiance that it brings to a room in any setting.

Let the fireplace be the statement in the room, make it the centre piece.

My favourite room in the house for a fireplace would have to be the kitchen.

Indigo.
A Shade of Blue.

Our colour of the month, is the cool, calming and nurturing Indigo.
Indigo is one of the 7 colours of the rainbow, placed between blue an violet, and is named after the plant Indigofera Tinctoria. This plant produces the dye, and it is believed that India is the oldest centre for Indigo dying going back over 1000 years. I know that it was one of 2014 on trend colours, but if it has been around for so long, it has obviously stood the test of time . Equal parts of blue and red will make violet, but add a touch more blue and the Indigo hue will start to come through. What I love about this colour, is that there are so many shades of Indigo, which makes it so versatile for any interior or exterior design.
I will be renovating my own house in the next couple of months, and can't wait to use this beautiful colour throughout my home.
