The Queenslander. Australia

The Queenslander originated in you guessed it, Queensland, and even though the name comes from that state it can been seen all over Australia. The Queenslander dates back to the 1850s, and was basically a wooden house  on stilts to keep the air flow moving underneath, cooling the home from the hot Queensland weather and in case of flood, surrounded by verandahs to get out of the scorching mid day sun, lattice shutters to be closed when a cyclone hit, open plan living interiors, again to keep the home cool and to circulate the air,  and capped of by a slanting tin roof for the rain down pours to flow the water off easily. The Queenslander represents a unique way of life in the sub-tropical part of Australia, and boy it's come along way. This week in beautiful homes around the world, Alida and Miller have chosen Killarney House in Byron Bay. This home is my favourite of all time, I know it happens to be in my home town, but if it was on the moon I would still love to call this place home. Killarney is owned by Jessica Ducrou and Dain Thomas, well know locals in the area for bringing the festival Splendour in the Grass, to Byron Bay a huge festival with musicians and music lovers coming from all over the world, and has know become one of the biggest musical venues in Australia. The couple worked alongside Strange Trader Design team Andres Duff and Robert Schwamberg, that once owned a interior design shop in Byron Bay, this was my favourite shop in town, and I have bought quite a few beautiful pieces from Strange Trader over the years for my home, and on clients requests. The shop is not here any more and I was sad to see it go, but I have heard that Robert and Andrea are sailing around the world to find new and interesting things for Strange Trader Design.

From this old run down Queenslander to the beautifully renovated, the Queenslander is always a standout in any neighbourhood.

Queenslanders come in all shape and sizes, but the one thing they have in common, they are quintessentially Australian.
But the fairest of them all is Killarney House.

My Grandson has a Tee pee in his bedroom and it gives the room a whimsical Peter Pan feeling. Jump into this space, and you can take yourself away any where, or be any mystical character you like.

I am sure you can see why we picked this home as number 1, the tall ceilings, the amazing interior design, the sympathetic restoration to the 109 year old house making it one of the oldest homes in Byron Bay, the quirky nick knacks, positioned on a 3/4 acres block, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms 4 of them en suites, and only 7 minutes walk to the beach, adds up to this Beautiful Queenslander a winner, and it can be yours for $3.5 million.
Every one needs to have dreams, and this home is mine
